Letcher Hiner, well-known resident of Monterey, died Thursday afternoon, March 24th, at the home of his son, Clyde Hiner, near Craigsville. He had been in failing health for many months, and three weeks before his death was moved to the home of his son where he was tenderly cared for until the end came, which followed a stroke of paralysis about a week before. Mr. Hiner was a native of Highland, son of the late Joseph B. and Ruth Hiner, and with his passing only two of his father’s family are left.... Letcher Hiner, well-known resident of Monterey, died Thursday afternoon, March 24th, at the home of his son, Clyde Hiner, near Craigsville. He had been in failing health for many months, and three weeks before his death was moved to the home of his son where he was tenderly cared for until the end came, which followed a stroke of paralysis about a week before. Mr. Hiner was a native of Highland, son of the late Joseph B. and Ruth Hiner, and with his passing only two of his father’s family are left. They are Joseph A. Hiner of the Monterey community and James 0. Hiner, of Akron, Ohio. He is survived by an invalid wife, Bed fast for eleven years, and the following children: Clyde and Dewey Hiner of the Craigsville neighborhood, Connel Hiner of Waco, Texas, and Miss Grace Hiner, who made her home with the afflicted parents, and whose faithful and untiring ministrations have won for her the praise of all her acquaintances. Mr. Hiner, as stated above, was one of the landmarks of the town and county, having lived in or near Monterey all his life, and his familiar presence will be missed by his life-long neighbors. He had been a member of the Methodist church for seven or eight years, and "Raving “put his house in order,” expressed his willingness and readiness to go. His remains were brought here for burial on Sunday at 2 p.m., an appropriate service being held at the Methodist church, conducted by his pastor Rev. F.B. Wyand.
