[Source 1850 Highland census] Highland Recorder January 21, 1921 Mrs. Harriet Ryder The subject of this sketch, whose death was briefly mentioned last week was the oldest child and only daughter of the late Joseph B. and Ruth Hiner, and was born in Feb. 1844, being nearly 77 years old at the time of her death. Toward middle age she became the wife of the late H.I. Trimble, of Strait Creek, and after his death she met and married Aaron Ryder, a farmer of Pocahontas county, W.Va. He survived but a few years, and since his death she had made her home, for a time in Marlinton, then coming to live with her nephew, Edward Hiner, where she remained until claimed by death on Thursday morning, Jan. 13. Mrs. Ryder is survived by three brothers, Joseph A. and John L. of this community, and James 0., of Akron, Ohio. She became a member of the Methodist church more than 50 years ago, and her faith and trust served her well in her last days, enabling her to face the final issue with confidence and resignation. The funeral service, held at the Monterey Methodist church Friday at 2 o'clock, -was conducted by her pastor, Rev. R.D. McNeer, and, in spite of inclement weather, a large number of friends were in attendance. The bearers were her nep hews— Jesse, John, Edward, Bernie and William Hiner, and a neighbor friend of the family, Peter White. Interment was in Monterey cemetery.
