Read More	s/o Richard Goodrich ========================= The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, February 3, 1921; pg. 1 THE FINAL SUMMONS Joseph Bonser Goodrich was born at Sciotoville in Scioto County, Ohio, December 17, 1856, and died at his home in east Nelson, January 27, 1921, aged 64 years, 1 month and 10 days. He was the seventh child of a family of ten children and grew to manhood in Sciotoville. In his twenty-first year he came west and established his residence at Newton, Kansas. After spending a number of years in Kansas, Missouri, and Alabama, he returned to Ohio and was married to Miss Minerva Atkin at Portsmouth, Ohio, May 9, 1886. After a brief visit with the home folk, he and his wife came west arriving at Nelson, Nebraska, May 26. They established their home in east Nelson, where they have kept a continuous residence for thirty-five years. To this union was born ten children, seven girls and three boys. Three girls died in infancy. The remaining children are Orin L. Goodrich, R.C. Goodrich, Mrs. Marie Pfeiffer, Mrs. Geneve Ferebee, Mrs. Helene Ferebee, Mrs. Beulah White of York, and H.J. Goodrich of Rock Springs, Wyoming; all were present at the funeral. In early manhood, Mr. Goodrich was converted and became a member of the Methodist Church at Sciotoville, Ohio. The winter following his arrival in Nelson he united on probation, with the Nelson Methodist Church, during Rev. A.B. Whitmer's pastorate. Joe, for he was commonly known by that name, was a genial fellow with a keen sense of duty that reached out beyond his immediate family and proved him a man of his word to all his fellowmen. His motto, it would seem, was "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." He was a true faithful husband, a kind and considerate father, and was admired and respected by his fellowmen. He leaves to mourn his untimely departure, four brothers, three sisters, a devoted wife, four daughters, three sons, six grandchildren and an enumerable host of friends. The funeral service was held from the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Pastor H.G. Wilcox assisted by Rev. Shirley of the Christian Church.
