FUNERAL TO BE HELD FRIDAY Joe Coyle, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Coyle, died early Wednesday morning at his home, due to a fractured skull sustained the previous afternoon. The young man was coming come from school, riding a horse when the accident happened, and as there were no witnesses, the facts of the regrettable instance can not be obtained. At about five o'clock Tuesday evening, Clarence Geiger saw the horse coming down the road, and, suspecting that the horse had become untied at the school ground, he caught the horse and rode him to the Coyle place. Mr. Coyle got into his car and started for town, and as he came to the county line corner, south of the Owen Gray Sr., farm, he found his son lying near the road, unconscious. Taking the boy home, he called Dr. Carrol, who after a thorough examination, found the skull to be fractured at the base of the brain. Dr. Stanard, of Ulysses, and Dr. Burdick, of David City, were called for consultation, but could do nothing to save the boy's life. He remained unconscious until his death. The horse was covered with mud on one side, and on the hips, and this indication led to the belief that due to the muddy condition of the road since the heavy rains, the horse had slipped and fell, throwing its rider. Just how the skull was fractured, can only be guessed, and many theories have been offered. Joe had ridden his horse to school for three years, and his elder brother Charles, who is teaching school in Colorado, had ridden it for for three or four years, so it is positive the animal was a gentle one. The unfortunate youth was in his sixteenth year, and was a member of the eleventh grade in the Ulysses High School. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning, at ten o'clock, at the Catholic church. Obituary will appear next week. `````````` October 1, 1925, p. 1, col. 6 & p. 8, col. 1 BODY OF JOSEPH COYLE LAID TO REST Joseph Cletus Coyle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Coyle was born near Ulysses, Nebraska, on July 3rd, 1910 and died September 23, 1925, aged 15 years, 2 months and 20 days. He leaves to mourn his going, his parents, two brothers, Charles and John, his grandmother, Mrs. Mary McGowan, many other relatives, and a host of friends, who deplore his sudden and untimely passing. The circumatances attendant upon his death were peculiarly and, as he met death when thrown from a horse he was riding, sustaining a fractured skull and internal injuries. Although everything in the way of medical assistance was done for him, he never regained consciousness after the accident on Tuesday evening, and death came at 5:30 Wednesday morning. When it became known that the lad had answered the call, a gloom settled upon the community, for he was loved by all who knew him. It was difficult to realize that the life of the bright and gifted boy had been so suddenly taken from his dear ones. They have the sympathy of the entire community in their almost irreparable loss. Joe was a dutiful son, a loving brother, and a kind friend to everyone. He was a member of the eleventh grade in the Ulysses High School [where he had] the affection of the teachers and pupils, who will miss him greatly. He was a devout Catholic, and a valued altar boy. His presence will be greatly missed at St. Mary's in which place he was a general favorite. His brother, Charles, who teaches school at Gunnison, Colo., spent his summer vacation at home, and since his departure, three weeks ago, Joe had often spoke joyously of the fine times they had enjoyed together but owing to railroad facilities, the brother was unable to be present at the funeral services. Funeral services were held Friday morning at ten o'clock at St. Mary's church. Rev. Loughran celebrated a requiem high mass for the repose of his soul. The seating capacity was taxed to the utmost with sorrowing friends who wished to pay their last respects to the youth. Superintendent Crow and the class of which Joe was a member, attended the services as a body. The floral tributes were many and beautiful, the interior of his last resting place being a veritable bed of roses. The pall-bearers were: Joseph Foster Lester Jones, Albin Otoupal, Bernard Welsh, John Bolen and Calir Helmsdoerfer. Interment was made in St. Mary's cemetery.
