Read More	WA--Shelton-MasonCnty Journal..03 Oct 1924 JOSEPH HANFORD DEER, JR PASSES FRIDAY AT OLYMPIA HOSPITAL; Throat Obstruction Proves Fatal For the second time this summer death has visited the Deer home in Shelton, first with the passing of JosephH Sr, in June & again Friday when JosephH Jr, was called after a brief illness. The young man was taken sick in Olympia the week before & his condition at the hospital there became so serious that an operation was resorted to permit breathing, an obstacle or growth in the throat causing the trouble that resulted in his death. The remains were brought to Shelton & the funeral service held in the family home Sunday afternoon, bringing here a large number of friends & busi-ness associates. The service was conducted by RevNelson Pierce, assisted by a select choir of friends & alumni of the Shelton high school from which the deceased was a grad-uate in 1928. The deceased was a native son of Shelton, having been born here 20 Nov 1903, the second son of Mr&Mrs J H Deer, one of Shelton's older families. His school life was passed here & he held a place in all the athletics of the school until he passed its portals. He was married 22 Aug 1921 to Miss Lulu Munro of Olympia & since taking up business life had been associated in the Deer oyster interests & since the death of his father succeeded as trustee of the Olympia Oyster Growers' Association. HE LEAVES besides his sorrowing young widow, his mother & 5 sisters, MrsDora Smith, MrsCynthia Munson, Misses Alta & Martha Deer, two bros: Dewey & Theodore E-all of Shelton. A large offering of flowers was provided for the service & the community joins in extending the bereaved ones their sincere sympathies.
