He was 86. MrDeer was born 12 Sep 1898, in SheltonWA. He graduated from the Washington State School for the Deaf in 1917 & went to Gallaudet College in Washington DC. After playing football in college, he went to AkronOH, to play semipro football for the Goodyear Silents. He moved back to Shelton in 1925 & worked as an oysterman & high-school coach. He also worked in logging camps in MasonCnty. He moved to Vancouver in 1942. He worked as a pot tender at Alcoa until his retirement in the early 60's. He was president for 12yrs of the Washington State Association of the Deaf & a member of the National Association of the Deaf. "Deer Hall" at the school for the deaf is named in his honor. HE IS SURVIVED by his widow, Ester-at home; 1 son: Dewey Deere-Kent; 1 dau: Florence Cates-Olympia; 1 sis: Gyneth Parsons-Shelton; 9 grandchildren & 9 gr grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday at Vancouver Funeral Chapel with the RevDavid Carstens officiating. Inturnment will be in Shelton. Memorials may be made to the Epperson Scholastic Fund at the School for the Deaf.
