Description	:	Joseph Hutcheson was the third son of Charles & Frances Collier Hutcheson. He and the family lived in a frame house on a slight hill overlooking the low ground on Laton's Creek behind the Ebenezer Church. The approximate 430 acres of land was divised him by his father. He married first Rebecca Neblett as named on her father's 1829 will and on a Lunenburg County marriage bond issued 11/19/1800- "Joseph Hutchinson, [sic]". They were married by the Rev. Read More	Joseph Hutcheson was the third son of Charles & Frances Collier Hutcheson. He married first Rebecca Neblett as named on her father's 1829 will and on a Lunenburg County marriage bond issued 11/19/1800- "Joseph Hutchinson, [sic]". They were married by the Rev. John Neblett, her uncle. Joseph's second marriage to Mary Clifford Valentine of Richmond was recorded 11/17/1825 in the marriage bonds of Mecklenburg County. The bond states that she was "upwards of 21 years of age". Joseph stongly supported the Methodist Church and was known to open his home to the preachers of the Mecklenburg circuit. He started as a planter of moderate means with a two storey home of 5 to 6 rooms varying in size from 20 x 20 on the ground level to small bedrooms above lighted by dormer windows. The usual dependencies consisted of a separate kitchen in the yard, smoke house, dairy, and an office. Some distance away were located a granary, barns, corn crib, stables and pig pens. He was given to enjoy reading, religion and fox hunting. His farm included a grist mill & 25-30 slaves and provided comfortably for all. His Jan. 11, 1845 will shows that he left a substantial estate upon his death. The three living sons were named as his executors. The original home has been removed but the family graveyard remains with rows of small unmarked field stones.
