In 1780, he served under Capt. James Jamieson, Col. Bratton and Gen. Sumter. In 1781, he was under Capt. Kirkpatrick and Col. Bratton. He was in the taking of Friday's Fort. In July, 1781, he joined Lt. Hamilton and Col. Moffett. He was in the battles at Biggin Church and Wadboo Bridge. In June, 1782, he joined Capts. Woods and William Hannah. Died at the residence of his son in this District, on Tuesday the 27th ult., Mr. Joseph Jamieson, a soldier of the Revolution in the 89th year of his age. His mother had been widowed by the death of his father, some years before the separation of the colonies from the mother country, and was left to depend upon the energy and industry of her two sons, James and Joseph for the support of herself and her orphan children.....(long account)...With emotions that refused control, James, the elder brother heard the first cry of his country for help against the tyranny that threatened to crush out her liberties, and ...became identified with the fortunes of Sumpter's brigade, until the close of the glorious conflict. The subject of this brief memoir was at the time too young to bear arms in the public service of his country, but was nevertheless far from being an idle spectator...as often as occasion demanded, the lad, Joseph, might be seen gliding from the forest home of his mother...the bearer of intelligence essential to the safety of the success of the partisan troops...our young champion for his country's freedom, with rifle in hand, has stood side by side with the lad of the congregation, and Sabbath after Sabbath guarded the log meeting house of Bullock's Creek Church, while the Rev. Dr. Joseph Alexander, preached the gospel to his people..... towards the close of the war, the subject mingled his service with others of his countrymen in the regular campaign.
