They owned the Buchanan Marble Works, then located at the NW corner of South Oak Street and Charles Court, of which part of the original site was sold to the City to develop Charles Court. One of the larger examples of their work can still be seen in the Civil War Memorial Monument at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Many others can also be seen in the old section of the cemetery, near the North entrance. ----------------------------------- After the death of his brother Jerome, in 1898, Joseph Peter Beistle was in partnership with James Edgar French, in the "Buchanan Marble Works" for about five years. The "Beistle and French" Marble Dealers of Buchanan, Michigan are listed in the 1904 directory. -------------------------------- See family photo, in the memorial for his wife Lucy. ----------------------------------
