Read More	JOSEPH POLEYETT CLAIMED BY DEATH Long Prominent In Business Life Of Community In Failing Health For Several Years Funeral Services At Westover Church On Tuesday. Joseph Poleyett, a prominent resident of Crisfield and for many years actively identified with the business affairs of the community, died at the Edward W. McCready Memorial Hospital at an early hour last Saturday morning. He was sixty-nine years of age. Mr. Poleyett had been in declining health for ten years past, undergoing treatment in Baltimore city hospitals and by some of the most eminent specialists in the country. Several weeks ago however his condition became such that he was confined to his home, and on Friday last he was removed to the local hospital in the hope of improving his condition. He passed away however within a few hours after he entered that institution. Mr. Poleyett's parents were natives of New York state, and moved to the "Turkey Branch" section of Somerset county, in Westover District, while he was yet a lad. His father, the late Nelson E. Poleyett, Sr., established there the family homestead from which the Poleyett family in Somerset county originated. In his early manhood Joseph Poleyett came to Crisfield and accepted employment with the late Sumner W. Dana. A few years later he engaged in the livery and hauling business and in the business of loading oyster shells for the Pennsylvania Railroad, and there began a successful career which ended only when Mr. Poleyett was compelled to return from active business about ten years ago. For may years he conducted the coal business in connection with numerous other enterprises, and was one of the largest property owners in Crisfield at the time of his death. He was a man of widespread business interests, and one of the most substantive residents of the community. Mr. Poleyett is survived by his widow, Mrs. Sula Poleyett; one son, Harold F. Poleyett; one daughter, Mrs. Stewart Graham of Salisbury; two brothers, Charles Poleyett of Westover, and George Poleyett of Baltimore; and four sisters, Miss Kate Poleyett and Mrs. Fannie Beauchamp of Westover, Mrs. Manie Hayes and Mrs. Hattie Cunard [Kennard] of Camden, N. J. Mr. Poleyett was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and funeral services were held at the Westover Catholic Church on Tuesday last, conducted by Father Daugherty. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery at Westover.
