Bruce, 89, a teacher in the local public school from 1911 to 1941, had passed away at her home at Newton that morning after being in poor health for several years. Following brief services at the funeral home at Newton the body was brought to Coon Rapids where services were held at the Coder-Anderson funeral home yesterday afternoon. Following brief services at the funeral home at Newton the body was brought to Coon Rapids where services were held at the Coder-Anderson funeral home yesterday afternoon. Services were in charge of the Rev. Floyd Smith of Nevada, a former pupil of Miss Bruce at Dedham, and the Rev. Evan Routh, pastor of the Church of Christ. Mrs. Roswell Jordan and Mrs, V. Hazelhoff sang "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "God Will Take Care of You" during the services, accompanied by Mrs. Russell Newcomm. Casketbearers were Joe Minnich, Forrest Smith, Theodore Mozena, Harold Coder. Burial was in the local cemetery. Josephine Isabelle Bruce; daughter of John and Flora Bruce, was born at Sigourney, Iowa, October 1,1861, and passed away at Newton January 30, 1951, in her 90th year. The family moved to Audubon county when she was a young girl and she started teaching at a Viola township school in 1876. Later she taught at Dedham then homesteaded and taught in Nebraska, returned to Dedham and then in the Coon Rapids school from 1911 until January 30, 1942 when she retired. Miss Bruce leaves few relatives but a host of friends. Surviving is a nephew, Leo Bruce of Newton, and two sisters-in-law, Mrs, Charles Bruce in Colorado and Mrs. S. W. Bruce in California. She was a member of the Christian church and of the O. E. S.
