Description	:	Joshua Goodyear was born at Mount Carmel, Hamden, New Haven Co., CT on 29 Sep 1769 to Jesse Goodyear and Hannah Bradley. He was the 3rd of 7 children. At about age 21, in 1789, Joshua married Rhoda Bassett or Ives in Hamden and they had 4 children there. We find Joshua, Rhoda, and their first 2 children, Bede and Marcus, on the 1810 federal census living next to Joshua's parents, Jesse and Hannah Goodyear. Read More	Joshua Goodyear was born at Mount Carmel, Hamden, New Haven Co., CT on 29 Sep 1769 to Jesse Goodyear and Hannah Bradley. He was the 3rd of 7 children. At about age 21, in 1789, Joshua married Rhoda Bassett or Ives in Hamden and they had 4 children there. We find Joshua, Rhoda, and their first 2 children, Bede and Marcus, on the 1810 federal census living next to Joshua's parents, Jesse and Hannah Goodyear. In 1809 their third child, Russell was born, but he only lived for 2 months. In 1812 their last child, Lois, was born. When Joshua was 50 years old his father, Jesse, died in May of 1817. In December that same year Jesse himself died on 15 Nov 1817. Two years later his wife, Rhoda, died on 12 Dec 1819, leaving their youngest child, Lois, who was only 8 years old at this time, to live with her widowed paternal grandmother, Hannah Goodyear. Three years later Hannah died and Lois, now 11 years old, went to live with her older sister, Bede who had married Rufus Dorman and had one young son, Sydney. Lois lived with her sister's family in Hamden until she married Jeremiah Bull Lambert of Milford in 1834 and they left Connecticut to settle on a farm in Bath Twp, Summit Co., Ohio. He was a veteran of the Civil War and in Ohio became a national prize-winning showman of cattle and horses. Jeremiah and Lois are both burried in the Bath Center Cemetery, Bath, Ohio. In the 1838 publication "History of the Colony of New Haven" by Edward Rodolphus Lambert we read, "Jeremiah Bull...married Louis (Lois), daughter of Joshua Goodyear, (deceased) of Hamden, (a descendant of Josuhua Goodyear, one of the first settlers of New Haven, deputy-governor of the colony, etc.) October 29, 1834. In the spring of 1837 they moved to Talmadge, Ohio." In the 1886 publication "History of the Town of Hamden" by William Blake the following was provided by Mr. Geo. F. Tuttle of New Haven, "Jesse Goodyear, b. June 18, 1735; d. May 24, 1817, ae 82; captain; m. June 25, 1761, Hannah Bradley, who d. April 3, 1822, ae 82. The will of Jesse Goodyear of Hamden names sons Jesse, Joshua, Amos, and daus. Hannah Bassett (Amos), Mabel Ives (Jesse), and Rebecca Gill (Thomas). Joshua had Marcus, Lois and Bede." In this same publication the "history is indebted to Mr. Frank E. Hotchkiss of New Haven for copies of the inscriptions on tombstones standing in the cemetery at Centerville, marking the resting places of members of the Goodyear families of Hamden," and his information reads, "...Joshua, d. Nov. 15, 1817, 50; Russell, his son, d. Jan 7, 1810, ae 2 mos...Rhoda, widow of Joshua, d. Sept. 27, 1819, ae 50...Capt. Jesse Goodyear, d. May 24, 1817, ae 82; Marcus, d. July 12, 1869, ae 63; Emily B., his wife, d. June 17, 1881, ae 73...(also, children of Marcus and Emily)..."
