Description	:	August 26, 1937 - October 15, 2019 New Bern, NC Ms. Juanita Ann Echols, 82, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019. She was the daughter of Elmo Grady Echols(9/2/1986) and Catherine Eloise Carpenter Echols (12/26/1995) who preceded her in death, along with an uncle, Joseph Carter (7/4/2017). She was the daughter of Elmo Grady Echols(9/2/1986) and Catherine Eloise Carpenter Echols (12/26/1995) who preceded her in death, along with an uncle, Joseph Carter (7/4/2017). Before retiring to New Bern, Juanita worked for Booz-Allen & Hamilton in falls Church, VA. She worked on several DOD proposals for the company, integrating text and schematics, winning three large contracts for the firm and earning "Token of Appreciation" awards and three promotions. After retiring to New Bern in August 1997, Juanita was involved in the Coastal Carolina Basketweavers Association (CCBA), serving on the Board of Directors as Membership Chair twice. She also joined the NC Basketmakers Association (NCBA) in 1998, serving on the board there for two terms; one as Secretary, and one for Member-At-Large. She was a member of the Craven County #129 Order of the Eastern Star for over 30 years, having transferred from the Rio Vista, TX chapter. Juanita loved to keep busy by crocheting afghans, hats and scarves; complicated cross-stitch patterns, and creating her own basket patterns for weaving. Most of these endeavors were donated to various charities including NCBA Convention Raffle Table's every March at the Sheraton Imperial Convention Center in RTP, NC. She was very active with CCBA, helping support the RCS Soup Kitchen-Empty Bowls Fund, donating over four dozen baskets for their cause. Juanita is survived by her two dear aunts, Gladys Josephine Riley, of Indian Head, MD; Dorothy Theresa Conner, of Waldorf, MD; and a host of cousins. A service to celebrate her life will be held in Indian head, MD at a later date. She will be laid to rest next to her parents and family.
