All members of her immediate family were at her bedside, except one son, Floyd. Julia Mae Hubbard was born January 16, 1865 in Iowa, coming to Knox county, Nebraska with her parents when seventeen. All members of her immediate family were at her bedside, except one son, Floyd. Julia Mae Hubbard was born January 16, 1865 in Iowa, coming to Knox county, Nebraska with her parents when seventeen. She was united in marriage to Andrew Franklin Strain, November 25, 1883. Four sons, Ray and Orra of Ekalaka, Floyd of Spokane, Wash. and Cecil of Deer Lodge, Mont. and two daughters, Mrs. Albert Brewer of Camp Crook, S.D. and Mrs. William Speelmon of Terraton, Idaho were born to this union. Before her marriage Mrs. Strain was a school teacher, teaching in log cabins in the vicinity of Knoxville, Nebr. before the building of the school house. Later, as a bride she went to one of those cabins located on Mr. Strain's homestead where they made their home for several years, experiencing the trials and privations of a new country. Quite late in life she took two small motherless granddaughters into her home caring for them until they were grown. Before coming to Montana she united with the Methodist church in Creighton, Nebr., later transferring her membership to the Union church at Ekalaka, being an active member until her last illness. During the last years of her life, she was frail physically but mentally alert. A deep and constant reader, she kept abreast of the times and could converse intelligently on any current topic relating to civic and national affairs.
