By comparing the dates from the newspaper articles below with a 1900 calendar, Julia died on Friday, October 19, and was buried on Sunday, October 21. There is no gravestone for Julia in Round Point Cemetery. If there ever was a stone, it was not in the cemetery when the WPA did their readings in the 1930s. ... Also, Julia's obituary states that she married J.A. Pegg in the county of her birth, which it states was Greene County, Indiana. Acccording to the Indiana Marriage Records, Julia married James A. Pegg on August 3, 1843, in Fountain County, Indiana. From "The Ottumwa Courier," Tuesday, October 23, 1900: [From Friday's Daily.] Mrs. Julia Pegg of West Main street, suffered a stroke of apoplexy last evening and this morning is in critical condition. Mrs. Pegg is an aunt of County Superintendent Beniah Dimmitt. Obituary From "The Ottumwa Courier," Tuesday October 23, 1900: DEATH OF MRS. JULIA PEGG Had Lived in Ottumwa Since 1861 Except Two Years In Missouri. [From Saturday's Daily.] The death of Mrs. Julia Pegg occurred at her home on West Main street yesterday, after a short illness. Mrs. Pegg has resided in Ottumwa ever since 1861 with the exception of about two years spent in Missouri. She has a large circle of relatives and friends who will mourn her demise. Mrs. Pegg was born in Green county, Indiana, August 11, 1823, and was at the time of her death slightly ever [sic -should be over] 77 years of age. She was united in marriage to J.A. Pegg, in the county of her birth and to this union eight children were born, seven of whom are living. They are John, of St. Johns, Arkansas; Charles, of Ottumwa; Morgan of Bates county, Mo.; Elizabeth Pegg, of Dahlonega; Phoebe Pegg, of Ottumwa; Mrs. Lottie Clark, of Pawnee county, Okalahoma, and Bart Pegg. These together with three sisters, Mrs. L. Lively, Mrs. Beniah Dimmitt and Mrs. William Dimmitt, all of this city, are left to mourn her demise. Mr. Pegg preceded his wife in death about 27 years ago while on a visit with relatives in Indiana.
