Read More	Tribute is paid to the memory of Mrs. Kate Anna Hostetler Karmann, former resident of the Wakefield community, who passed from this life Sunday December 10, 1950, in Junction City. Her life story is written as follows: Born May 21, 1870, in Myersdale, Summerset County, Pa., she was the daughter of Peter and Anna Hostetler. She came at the age of eight, with her parents, and settled on a farm near Wakefield. Her parents were one of group of people living in Summerset County, Pa., who came to establish homes on the Kansas prairies. These people built schools, roads, churches and were largely responsible for developing Wakefield into the driving community we know today. Mrs. Karmann was one of those pioneer settlers who shared the hardships that go with a young country, helping to bring the young into the world and to bury the dead, sharing joys and sorrows with this little group of hardy pioneers. When she was 22 years of age she was united in marriage with Charles Karmann. The young couple lived on a farm near Wakefield and she continued to live there most of her life. In 1936 she moved to Junction City and had since made her home with her daughter. Mrs. Ida Wells. Mrs. Karmann became the mother of 14 children, all of whom made her immensely proud. Even though she was busy from early .morning until late at night caring for her large family, yet she always had time to help any neighbor in distress. Death came to Mrs. Karmann on Sunday afternoon, December 10, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wells, at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 49 days. She is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Mary A. Zimmerman of Sepulveda, Calif.; Mrs. Margaret Klausen, of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Della A. Fiest and Mrs. Ida N. Wells of Junction City; also by eight sons: George of Salina, William of Albion, Nebr., Henry, Charles A., and Clarence E. of Junction City; Herbert and Herman of Milford; and Fred F. of Solvang, Calif.; 30 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; also a sister, Mrs. W, J. Carpenter of Clay Center, and a brother, Peter Hostetler of Upland. Mrs. Karmann was preceded in death by her husband November 13. 1922 and two children, Omer U. on May 26, 1899, and Lillie E. Meredith, who passed away August -15, 1939 at the age of 44 years. Mrs. Karmann was a kindly and lovable person, a fine neighbor, a loving wife and mother. She waged a successful fight against various kinds of hardships and reared her family to become upstanding citizens of the various communities where they reside. The good, heavenly Father spared her life to ripe old age, and then called her from her ministry of love and service on this earth to her heavenly, reward. Like the virtuous woman of whom we read in the scriptures--her children rise up to call her blessed. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, December 13, at 2 o'clock at the Johnson Chapel in Junction City and burial was made in the Karmann family plot at the Milford cemetery. Among those attending the funeral rites was Mrs. W. J. Carpenter, members of her family, and other relatives from Clay Center and Wakefield. ---- Death of Mrs. Kate Karmann. Mrs. Kate Anna Karmann, age 80, passed away Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ida Wells, of 311 South Jefferson. She had been ill since February. Mrs. Karmann was born May 21, 1870, in Somerset county, Pa., and came to the Wakefield vicinity with her parents when eight years old. She was married to Charles Karmann at Clay Center in February. 1892. They continued to live in the Wakefield community. Mr. Karmann died Nov. 13, 1922. In 1936, Mrs. Karmann came to live with her daughter, Mrs. Wells, of this city. She was a member of the Milford Congregational church. Surviving relatives include the following sons and daughters: George Karmann, of Salina, William Karmann, of Albion, Neb., Henry, Charles, Herman and Clarence, of Junction City, Herbert Karmann, of Milford, and Fred Karmann, of Solvang, Calif.; Mrs. Mary A. Zimmerman, of Sepulveda, Calif, Mrs. Margaret Klausen, of Kansas City, Kansas., Mrs. Della A. Fiest and Mrs. Ida Wells, of Junction City; one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Carpenter, of Clay Center, and one brother, Peter Hostetler, of the Upland community; 30 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. One son and one daughter preceded Mrs. Karmann in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Johnson Funeral Home with Dr. F. B. McDowell officiating. Burial will be in the family lot of the Milford cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 o'clock Tuesday Evening at the Johnson Funeral Home.
