Holechek Funeral Home & Cremations in Oshkosh is serving the Carlson family. Kathleen was born on December 7, 1916, the oldest child of Van and Edmonia (Johnson) Delatour in Cowley, Wyoming. At the age of 16 months, the family moved back to Nebraska to a family owned ranch near Blue Creek and this is where she spent the most of her life. She received her education at District 50 and then Lewellen High School and St. Patrick's High School in Sidney. Kathleen met her husband when he came to the western part of Nebraska and began working for her father in the hay fields. On October 3, 1935, she married Darrel "Swede" Carlson in Ogallala with her parents as witnesses. They spent several years working on various ranches. The stories they used to tell about living on the gusher and storing their cold foods, run away wagons, dances held at the neighborhood homes, and playing cards. It must have been good times. They had two children, Ronald Van (1939) and Sharon Kathleen (1946). When Ron was 5, they moved to their own ranch and lived there until 1963. They bought a house in Lewellen and Swede never really adapted to town living but Kathleen liked it a lot. She worked in Oshkosh at Midwec, that later turned into Marsh and then Marshalltown. She worked there for about 20 years, and enjoyed most of them. Swede passed away in 1991. Kathleen watched the remodeling of Riverview Assisted Living from the beginning and decided that was where she wanted to finish her life without all the worries of being a homeowner. She was one of the first residents to move in and loved every minute. Her failing health forced her to move to the nursing home in Oshkosh. Her immediate family, who mourn her passing are her daughter, Sharon "Sherry" and husband Don Hays of Victorville, CA; daughter-in-law, Kae Carlson of Lewellen; 6 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Dorothy Leeper of Lewellen and Joan and husband Monroe Brunt of Lewellen; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; 3 brothers, Dar, Sam and Eugene Delatour; 4 sisters, Mildred, Josephine, Helen, and Pauline; and her son, Ron.
