Delatour who as killed in a plane crash India in 1944, will be laid to rest in the Ash Hollow cemetery on Wednesday, February 8 at 2:00 p. m. with full military graveside rites being performed. Delatour was the son of the late Van Delatour and Mrs. Delatour, who is now Mrs. Harry Newton of Lewellen. At the age of his death he was 24 years old, having been born February 3, 1920. He was killed in a crash while returning to his base in India after serving in China. He had entered the armed forces in September 4, 1941, enlisting in the service. After attending rural schools in the area north of Lewellen, he attended Lewellen and Sidney schools and then went to Curtis where he graduated with the class of 1939. He was associated with his father in ranching before listing in the air force. During the time he attended Curtis Agriculture school he was a member of the football team, took part in many activities and was the light-heavyweight boxing champion of that school. He went to Jefferson Barracks, Missouri as his first post in the army and later served in Texas, Kansas, Ohio, Oklahoma and other states. His assignment in India was his first overseas assignment. Surviving are his mother, Mrs Monia Newton, Lewellen; four sisters; Mrs. Kathleen Carlson, Lewellen; Mrs. Dorothy Cranmore, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Mildred Huckfeldt, Holstein; and Mrs. Joan Brunt, Chadron; one brother, Eugene of Lewellen; two half-sisters, Mrs. Josephine Corbin and Mrs. Helen Winter, both of California; and one half-brother, Dar of Oshkosh. His father and a half-sister, Mrs. Pauline Fisher, both have passed away since he was killed. The graveside services in Ash Hollow are the only rites planned. An ex-army chaplain will give the sermon and the American Legion post of Lewellen will be in charge of the military rites. He will be laid to rest beside his father.
