She passed away Wednesday, November 4, 1998, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 74 years, 9 months, and 20 days. She attended Abdal Grade School. Kathryne moved with her family to Hebron, Nebraska, in 1934. She graduated from Hebron High School in 1941. Kathryne started cosmetology school before she graduated from high school and passed her state boards in 1942. April 2, 1942, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Harlan J. Meyer. They lived in Nelson, Nebraska, where she started her own beauty shop. In 1946, they moved to the county farm and in 1947 they moved to Nelson, where they raised their family: Gregory born in 1945, Craig born in 1951, and Misi born in 1955. Kathryne was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She operated her beauty shop out of her home so she could be there everyday to hear the kids come through the door to say, "I'm home, Mom". She was always there for her children, if they needed help with homework, help with a class float for Homecoming, a field trip sponsor, davice for troubles with a girlfriend or boyfriend. Kathryne retired from the beauty shop in 1973 to spend time with Misi during her senior year and turned the beauty shop back into a bedroom. She liked to crochet and always had a doilie or an afghan she was working on. Kathryne was always proud of her children, Greg and his sports accomplishments and the beautiful wood projects he would make for her. Craig always had a surprise for her on Saturday mornings when he would bring home his latest ceramics project and in later years it was stained glass. Kathryne was always all cars and would sit and listen intently to Misi's stories of her scientific research. She enjoyed going to all the class plays and music concerts of her children and grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Garlin, Reece and DeWayne Bishop; and one sister, Vivian Butterfield. Survivors include her husband, Harlan of Nelson, Nebraska; two sons, Gregory Meyer and his wife Coleen of Lexington, Nebraska, and Craig Meyer and Sherie of Grand Island, Nebraska; one daughter, Misi Robinson and her husband Steve of Aurora, Colorado; nine grandchildren, Shannon Zeibel and her husband Kevin, and Shane Meyer and his wife Stephanie, all of Lincoln, Nebraska, Rylie Meyer of Omaha, Nebraska, Matthew Meyer of Springfield, Missouri, Mandy Meyer and Stephanie Carrigan, both of Grand Island, Nebraska, Angi Heifner and her husband John of Colorado Springs, Stacy Eich of Laramie, Wyoming, and Joshua Robinson of Aurora, Colorado; four great grandchildren, Chase Zeibel, AJ Meyer, Dylan Heifner and Callie Meyer; one sister, Vernoye Bargen of Superior, Nebraska; one brother-in-law, James Butterfield of Santa Anna, California; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Bishop of York, Nebraska, and Darlene Bishop of Greensburg, Kansas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 7, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. at Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, Nebraska, with Rev. Ralph Sturdy officiating. Music was "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond the Sunset" with Ruth Watts as soloist and Carlita Price as organist and accompanist. Pallbearers were Larry Zimmerman, Jim Maschmann, Vic Bargen, Ardean Arndt, Lendall Meyer and Gordon Meyer. Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson, Nebraska was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Nelson Ambulance Fund in care of the family.
