Barker was born Feb. 28, 1932, south of Nevada, the son of Frank (L.B.) and Sylvia (Hemstock) Barker. He married Elaine Rupe March 13, 1954, in Prairie City. He worked at Northwestern Bell for 44 years before retiring in 1994. He was a member of Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley and Telephone Pioneers of America. He is survived by his wife; one son, Tim Barker of Nevada; two daughters, Cathy Wycoff of Plano, Texas, and Kelly Fisher of Nevada; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Loren Barker and Larry Barker, both of Nevada; and three sisters, Jeanette Borders of Collins, Lois Thornton of Knoxville and Martha Gruetzmacher of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by one brother. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada. A memorial fund has been established in his name for On With Life in Ankeny. Chet Ryan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
