Description	:	Kenneth E. “Stub” Kephart, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 8, 2019, at his home in Riceville, IA, after a brave battle with cancer. Kenneth was born in Riceville on July 2, 1929, in the same home in which he passed away. He was the second of nine children to Ward Sr. and Winifred (Holden) Kephart. Stub served as a Forward Observer in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Read More	Kenneth E. “Stub” Kephart, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 8, 2019, at his home in Riceville, IA, after a brave battle with cancer. Kenneth was born in Riceville on July 2, 1929, in the same home in which he passed away. He was the second of nine children to Ward Sr. and Winifred (Holden) Kephart. Stub served as a Forward Observer in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Later, with his passion for flying, he earned his private pilot’s license, and he was honored with the role of local airplane spotter for the U.S. Air Force. Kenny raised his own crops and cattle, traveled northeast Iowa helping other farmers through artificial insemination of cattle, maintained Riverside Cemetery for four decades, and welded for Mosher Doors. He was also known and loved by years of students and staff at Riceville Community Schools for his job as custodian. Stub’s deepest love was for his family and friends. Kenneth and Darlene (Kruger) Kephart and married on August 19, 1961, and had three children. The couple made their home near Lake Hendricks for most of their 57 years. After retirement, they were blessed to enjoy wintering in the warmer weather of Arizona together, where Kenny could tell stories for hours to his many dear friends in Apache Junction. He will be remembered as a caring, loving, selfless, hardworking man. Those who knew him enjoyed his infectious smile and admired his amazing memory of dates and activities of the past. He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Kruger); his children, Doug Kephart of Dassel, MN, Lori (Ralph) Elliott of Grinnell, IA, and Steve (Lisa) Kephart of Mechanicsville, VA; three sisters, Helen Krumwiede of Costa Mesa, CA, Bonnie Holtz of San Clemente, CA, and Shirley Saraga of Kingman, AZ; his brother, Keith of Seal Beach, CA; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ward Jr., Jim, Larry; and his sister, Virginia Maloney.
