Kenny was born in Byron on September 21, 1932, to Herman and Emilie Eggers; he was the youngest of 6 siblings. He was raised in Byron and attended school in Republic, Kansas, graduating in 1950. In 1953, Kenny joined the United States Navy and actively fought in the Korean War aboard the USS Eversole. His service ended with an Honorable Discharge in June of 1955. He proudly received the Korean Service Medal (3 stars), the Korean Presidential Unit citation, the United Nations Service Medal, the China Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. On August 25, 1954, Kenny married the love of his life, Jo Ann Johnson of Republic, Kansas. In August of 1957 they moved to Santa Ana, California where he got a job with the United States Postal Service. They remained in California, moving to Garden Grove in 1960 where they continued to raise their family until he retired. They left California and relocated to Nebraska in 1988. Their final home was in Chester. Kenny was always happy and had a great sense of humor. He was always glad to see you and always had time to visit with you. He was an avid golfer. He loved watching sports, reading the newspaper and never missed reading the "funny papers." He loved God and loved his church. He was always busy and loved working in his garage and his garden. He loved is family dearly and was a wonderful husband, great dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend. Kenny is survived by his wife of 64 years, JoAnn; his children, Teresa (Christopher)Tompkins of Murrieta, Calif., Lori (Ward) Heitmann of Chester, Daniel (Caren) of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Sheri (Steve) Baxa of Salina, Kansas; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Ruby Eggers and Alice Eggers. Kenny is preceded in death by his grandson, Kyle Heitmann; brothers, Eberhard (Mae) Eggers, Paul (Lenora) Eggers, Walter Eggers, Max Eggers; and sister, Gertrude (William) Mason. A funeral service was held at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester with graveside service at the Chester Cemetery.
