Visitation was Friday, from 5-8 p.m., at Carson Funeral Home in Dayton. Kenneth Jacob Peterson was born on February 23, 1914, on the family farm south of Dayton where he worked all of his life. He was one of the thirteen children born to Christian and Christina (Hanson) Peterson. Kenneth graduated with the Boxholm Consolidated High School class of 1931. He married Lenore Skoglund on November 28, 1939. Lenore passed away on May 29, 1948. On August 3, 1950, Kenneth married Gwendolyn Reed. Kenneth farmed until his retirement in 1977. He continued helping on the farm for the next several years. Kenneth belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton where he was a past member of the Church Council. He was a former director of local elevator boards and had served on the Boxholm school board. Kenneth enjoyed golf, bowling, cards, traveling and the Chicago Cubs. He belonged to the Dayton Golf and Country Club and the Dayton Lion's Club. Survivors include his wife, Gwen Peterson of Dayton, Iowa; two daughters, Rita and her husband Paul Thompson of Eldora, Iowa, and Susan and her husband John Swanson of Boxholm, Iowa; two sons, Mark and his wife Maureen Peterson of Carmel, Indiana, and Craig and his wife Barb Peterson of Dayton, Iowa; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Schmitz of Colton, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lenore; one son, Marvin; five sisters, Laura Nelson, Anna Peterson, Frances Slater, Edna McCullough and Mabel Tomlinson; and six brothers, Henry, Elmer, Ralph, Earl, Melvin and Paul Peterson.
