Read More	Chaput Mortuary Kenneth Paul Cailteux, 90, a lifelong resident of Clyde, Kansas passed away Saturday morning, June 3, 2017. Kenny was born on June 17, 1926, in Clyde, Kansas the second of four Cailteux brothers. A World War II veteran, Kenny, was awarded the Purple Heart after he was wounded in action and severely burned when the carrier on which he was stationed was hit by two Japanese suicide bombers. He served as the Charter Commander of the Clyde San Lo-Leyte VFW Post 7515. Kenny stayed in touch with Navy friends who served with him on the USS Suwanee by traveling to annual reunions with his wife by his side. A high point of his years of service was the Honor Flight in 2011, which he took with his brothers who had also served in the military. During his lifetime in Clyde, Kenny carried mail and was active in the Kansas Rural Letter Carriers Association including serving as secretary of the state organization. He was named Kansas mail carrier of the year 1987 and was proud of his million miles driven without an accident award from the U.S. Post Office. He enjoyed traveling to Rural Letter Carriers local and national conventions with his wife, kids and grandkids. He previously owned and operated the Kent Oil Station and was the municipal judge for Clyde for over 35 years and was still the judge up until his death. During his time as a judge, he was presented with the Fred Benson award for recognition of years of service. Because work was important to him, he even set his retirement date for January 1, 2000, so that he could say he had worked into the next century. For most of his life and following retirement, Kenny farmed the Cailteux farm with his brothers in the Clyde area until 2014, after which he and his wife Midgie spent their years together keeping up with their family. “Pop-pop,” as he was known by all the grandkids, was a family man who liked to travel to multiple family celebrations, and his wry sense of humor and storytelling will be missed by both family and friends. On February 17, 1952 Kenny married Midgie I. Knox at the St. John the Baptist Church, Clyde. Kenny is survived by Midgie, his wife of 65 years, and by his children Kerry (Gilda) Cailteux of Cairo, Egypt; Konrad (Christine) Cailteux of New York, NY; Kaylene (John) Curtis of New Smyrna Beach, FL: and Marlene (Gayle) Cailteux of Lenexa, KS; grandchildren Kathleen DesOrmeaux of San Antonio, TX; Michael Cailteux of Norfolk, Colorado; Lauren (Kyle) Maples of Washington, DC; Karelynn (Travis) Overfelt of Lee’s Summit, MO; Sherlynn (Chris) Siok of Anchorage AK and Kylie Cailteux of Lawrence, KS. He is also survived by his 3 brothers Eldon, Ronel (Darlyne) and Myron (Sharon) and by 14 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Margaret Wheeland Cailteux. Kenny lived a blessed life full of energy and love for his country, family and friends. His spirit will be with us for the visitation from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2017 with family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Chaput Mortuary in Clyde, KS and for the funeral service on Friday, June 9, at 10:00 AM, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clyde, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Clyde, Kansas with Military Honors conducted by VFW Post #7515. Memorial contributions may be given to Clyde Fire Dept. or Clyde Ambulance Service c/o Chaput Mortuary of Clyde.
