Read More	Fairfield Ledger Thursday January 26, 1984 Kent Rinaberger dies in hunting accident CENTERVILLE - Kent Rinaberger, 31, former Fairfield resident, was killed Tuesday in a hunting accident near Rathbun Reservoir, Appanoose County authorities said today. Rinaberger was a counselor and assistant football coach in the Centerville school system. Sheriff Ron Powell said Dr. Brad McConville, Appanoose County medical examiner, ruled the death was accidental. Both Powell and McConville were called to the scene after Rinaberger's body was found Wednesday at 2 p.m. about a mile east of the Rathbun dam. Powell said it was believed he had been dead nearly 24 hours. Rinaberger was last seen at school Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. He did not report for work Wednesday morning and school officials became concerned when he did not call in. Powell said his office was notified Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. and a search was organized when Rinaberger was not found at the apartment where he was living. After what he termed a thorough search of the area, Powell said there was no question that it was a hunting accident. Rinaberger's body was found along a fence about 10 yards from this parked car. Powell said Rinaberger apparently was crossing the fence when his 20-guage shotgun discharge, striking him in the lower left rib cage. Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Centerville with the Rev. William Ballard officiating. A prayer service will follow at 4 p.m. at the Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. Arrangements are in charge of Miller-Wehrle Funeral Home. Memorials have been established to Rinaberger's children and the Drake Public Library of Centerville. Rinaberger was born June 4, 1952 in Fairfield, the son of Don and LaVeria PRiebe Rinaberger. He was a star athlete at Farifield High School where he graduated in 1969. During his senior year he won numerous football honors, including Southeast Seven Conference Most Valuable Player and selection on the Iowa Daily Press Association's third All-State team. Rinaberger graduated from the University of Iowa and received his master's degree at Northeast Missouri State University. He was married to Sarah Jane Doherty Aug. 3, 1974. Surviving are his wife and two sons, Kainan Gene and Zachary James, Centerville. Other survivors are one sister, Cindy Dickey, Packwood; one brother, Mark Rinaberger, Fairfield; his father and stepmother, Don and Loretta Rinaberger, Fairfield; and two grandmothers, Ella Priebe, Fairfield; and Rena Gillis, Burlington. He was preceded in death by his mother. Rinaberger was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and the First United Methodist Church of Centerville.
