Committal service will follow in Occupy#1 Cemetery under the guidance of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale. L.J., 79, of Pitkin, entered eternal rest on Friday, November 9, 2018 in his residence. He was born on December 6, 1938 to James A. Thompson and Luerue Doyle Thompson in the Ten Mile Community. He was very active in the Community Volunteer Fire Department of Ten Mile for 27 years serving as Chief, and a fork lift operator at the Calcasieu Paper Co in Elizabeth. L.J. was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend. He is preceded in death by his parents: James and Luerue Thompson; his loving wife of 60 years, Mae (Edwards)Thompson, two sisters, Linda Musellwhite, and Elaine Martin. He leaves behind his loving family to cherish his memory: one son, Mark Thompson and wife, Angie of Ten Mile; one daughter, Lisa Gillespie and husband, Don of Otis; three brothers, Shelby Thompson of Longview, Texas, Michael Thompson of Plainview, and Gilbert Thompson of Oakdale; six sisters, Ezell Brown of Longview, Texas, Martha Jean McMillian of Longview, Texas, Sue Richey of Pitkin, Darlene Richmond of Union Hill, Janey Ballard of Union Hill, and Rhonda O’Banion of Glenmora; four grandchildren, Zeth Thompson and wife Haley, Justin Thompson and wife Ashley, Brandon Gillespie and wife Katelyn, and Tori Boswell and husband C.J.; thirteen great-grandchildren; on great-granddaughter on the way; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers to serve will be the Community Volunteer Fire Fighters of Ten Mile, Cravens, Marlow, and Pitkin: Jr Willis, Hunter Willis, David Bailey, Rodney Brister, Jimmy Shirley, and Daniel Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Thompson, Zeth Thompson, and Brandon Gillespie. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 3 pm until 12 noon service time on Monday, November 12, 2018 in the Freedom Baptist Church.
