Montel, 79, of North Manchester, IN, died Thursday, April 1, 1999 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. He was born Aug. 7, 1919 in Kosciusko County, IN to Emery and Mary (Metzger) Montel. He married Mary M. Callahan Sept. 25, 1942, and she survives. He was graduated from Sidney High School in 1937 and attended Manchester College. He was co-owner of International Harvester Dealership from 1952-68 at North Manchester. He was a member of the Eel River Church of the Brethren; and a former member and Past President of North Manchester Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of Deming Lodge #88 F & AM and Ivy Chapter #69 Order of Eastern Star, both of North Manchester, and Scottish Rite of Fort Wayne. He and his wife had served as volunteers with the Church of the Brethren in New Windsor, MD, Camp Ithiel, Orlando, FL, and Bethany Seminary of Oakbrook, IL. He was retired from Manchester College Maintenance Department after 16 years employment. Survivors include his wife, Mary; a son, Gary (Dee) Montel of North Manchester; two grandchildren - Mrs. Dennis (Beth) Beckner of North Manchester and Barth (Dr. Angie) Montel of Bluffton, OH; a brother, John Montel of North Manchester; two sisters - Wretha Jenkins of South Whitley and Blanche Fisher of North Manchester; two great-granddaughters - Deanna and Alaina Beckner, both of North Manchester. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 18, 1999 at 4:00 p.m. at the Eel River Church of the Brethren, located on SR 14, in Koskiusko County; Rev. Martha Cory will officiate, and friends will be received following the services. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements, and preferred memorials are to either Manchester College, the Eel River Church of the Brethren, or to that of the donor's choice.
