She has been divorced from her husband who left her when he found what kind of a woman she was. The mother had been in the habit of getting drunk frequently and she taught the little child to like whiskey and it also has been drunk. The parents testified to this effect before the coroner. The little girl on Saturday night was seen to put the bottle of whiskey on the table. It went to sleep and was asleep 10 hours before the family thought anything serious. Dr Hyde was then called and he was unable to arose the little one and it died at 10:00 Sunday night . The child died from acute alcoholism. No onw saw the child take any liquor although it is generally admitted that she did. There will be no prosecutions but there is no question but that some one is guilty of a crime. Feb 16, 1906 An echo of tragedy enacted at Addison on the 4th of this month with little Laura Stapleton succumbed to the effects of whiskey, was heard in the probate court and the court of common pleas on Friday morning when Scott Stapleton, the father and divorced husband, brought suit for the partitioning of the estate left by the little one. On the 14th of September, 1901, Scott Stapleton was divorced from his wife, who is now Mrs Rally Reese. At the time of the divorce being granted he deeded to her a number of lots located in Addison, that is the property was deeded to Mrs Stapleton and the child, Laura, whose death, following an orgy at her mothers home aroused the people. The suit now brings is for the partitioning of that property and the setting aside of the part belonging to Laura to himself as the legal heir. In the suit, william Huddleston, Maria Rossman, CF Miller and himself as administrator of the estate of his late child, are made party defendants. Huddleston is a tenant in common with himself while Maria Rossman and CF Miller claim to have certain interest in the property. According the the plaintiffs, Huddleston came into possession of the property through deed from Rally Reese, who is his daughter and the divorced wife. Prior to filing the suit, Mr Stapleton appeared in the court and had himself appointed administrator of the estate of Laura. He then filed his answer and cross petition as such and asks in the same that the property be partitioned and that Rossman and Miller be required to set up their claim. May 7, 1906 Scott Stapleton versus William Huddleston et al. Sale ordered. Dec 1, 1906 Lucinda Huddleston yesterday filed a petition through her attorneys against Scott Stapleton and others. The plaintiff alleges that the defendant is the duly qualified administrator of the estate of the late Laura Stapleton and that he is indebted to the plaintiff for board, washing, lodging, laundry, etc... in the sum of $373.24 with interest. The plaintiff alleges to have supported the said Laura Stapleton from February 1, 1902 until February, 1906 April 26, 1907 In the case of Lucinda Huddleston vs Scott Stapleton, administrator of the estate of the late Laura Stapleton, the plaintiff has filed her amended petition. She claims $416 for caring for Laura 208 weeks at $2 per week but admits that the defendant is entitled to a credit of $42.76 on that account, leaving a balance of $373.24 in the plaintiffs favor. She claims to have presented the account to the administrator and that he refused to allow the same, wherefore she prays judgement in the sum.
