Pierce were held in the Boileau and Thomas Funeral Home in Red Oak, December 1 and the body was then brought to the Emerson Cemetery for burial. Mrs. Pierce wrote her own obituary which was read at the services as follows: Laura F. Smith, daughter of Seth and Sarah E. Smith was born at North Elk Grove, Wisconsin, January 13, 1856. She moved with her parents from Wisconsin to Grant, Montgomery County, Iowa in 1868, where she grew to womahood and became a school teacher and taught in Montgomery and adjoining counties, the last year in the grades of the Grant School. On October 26, 1881 she was married to A. W. Culver of Hawthorne, west of Red Oak. Mr. Culver was then Burlington Station Agent at Coburg. Later they became resident of Red Oak for two years and then moved to Emerson, where Mr. Culver was in business for 16 years. In 1898 they moved to Des Moines. In May 1899, Mr. Culver was stricken with paralysis and they moved back to Emerson to make their home. Mr. Culver was helpless and could not talk for over three years. He died June 17, 1902 in Emerson. To this union six children were born. December 12, 1908, Mrs. Culver was married to G. W. Pierce of Emerson. They made their home in Red Oak for 16 years when Mr. Pierce died January 12, 1924. For more than 50 years, Mrs. Pierce was deeply interested and an officer in home and foreign missionary societies of the Methodist Church. She united with the Methodist Church at the age of 10 years. She was also a member of the Women's Relief Corp. Mrs. Pierce is survived by three daughters and three sons; Mrs. Sam Rumsey of Fullerton, Nebraska, Mrs. F. B. Bennett of Fullerton, Nebraska, Mrs. E. P. Bennett of Jefferson, Iowa, Morris B. Culver of Rice Washington, J. Ray Culver of of Sanford, Montana, and Paul E. Culver of Albuquerque, New Mexico. One child died in infancy. She is also survived by one brother, Frank F.Smith of Rice Washington, two step daughters, Mrs. Chas Hush and Mrs. Fred Scott of Red Oak, 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
