Description	:	AT REST Impressive funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Ira Dennis were held from the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Arthur at 2:30 PM, Saturday 20, 1943 conducted by Rev. Clifford Maxwell, assisted by Rev. CE Hamilton. Gospel singing by Mr. and Mrs. William Crouse and Joe Monhart with Mrs. Frye at the piano was of high order. Pallbearers were Henry Steinke, Everett Yates, LC Jensen, LM Dorris, Charles Thompson and Roy Hyatt, all of the American Legion. Preceding the service the Auxiliary had provided for the temporal needs of the children and other relatives present from a distance. There is little we can say in praise or commendation of these, our friends and neighbors but what is a matter of common knowledge. For a generation they have lived their lives before us and their kindly deeds of love and services had won a high place in all hearts as was manifested by the large crowd at the farewell service and by the beautiful floral offerings. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis were youth members of the Advent Christian Church, tho' largely isolated from others of that denomination, they had remained true and loyal as good soldiers of Christ to the lofty ideals of human life and destiny, held by that people, believing that life and immortality are given as a reward to those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Ira Dennis the oldest son of George and Maria Dennis was born September 16, 1867 and passed away March 18, 1943 at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 2 days. He was united I marriage to Lillie M. Madison on June 27, 1900. She passed away several years ago. Their children are David I. of Arthur, just recently honorably discharged from the Army, Mrs. Nettie M. Delzell of Independence Kansas, Clyde of Larned Kansas and Oliver of the US Army, all of whom were present at the funeral. Four sisters, Mrs. Chas Hiner of this County, Mrs. Chas Madison of Richmond, CA and Mrs. Carl Maddison and Mrs. Walter Pert of St. Cloud, FL survive and also four grandchildren. May Riley was born in Michigan on May 9, 1869 and was united in marriage to Andrew T. Hanson of Polk County Nebraska in 1884. Mr. Hansen passed away several years ago. Of their 10 children, 8 survive: 2 daughters, Mrs. Lillian Chevernot and Mrs. EJ Addington of Chicago, 6 sons: Walter of Deadwood South Dakota, Elmer of Payson Utah, WA of Las Vegas Nevada, Wesley of Oelrichs South Dakota, Jess L. of Woodlake California and Henry of North Platte Nebraska. The sons were all present at the funeral. The Hansen and Dennis families were pioneers in this vicinity and had been long time friends. Following the death of their companions Mrs. Hansen and Mr. Dennis were united in marriage, November 1940. They continued to live on the Dennis farm, and here, Mrs. Dennis perished in the tragic fire of March 16. Mr. Dennis received severe burns while attempting to rescue his wife from the devouring flames and passed away on March 18. Cards of Thanks from the Hanson and Dennis families.
