Description	:	"Laywelland Wescott was born in Oneida County, New York, April 9, 1884 (This should be 1844 - and must be an error in print or translation), moving with his parents to LaSalle County, Illinois when he was but a small boy. There, in 1864 (marriage certificate is dated 1865) he married Miss Anna Lewis where he lived for thirteen years, coming to Creston, Nebraska, in 1873, since which time he has made this his home with the exception of a few years spent in Omaha and Junction City, Kansas. There, in 1864 (marriage certificate is dated 1865) he married Miss Anna Lewis where he lived for thirteen years, coming to Creston, Nebraska, in 1873, since which time he has made this his home with the exception of a few years spent in Omaha and Junction City, Kansas. While living in Omaha he identified himself with the Methodist Episcopal Church and bro't his letter with him on his return to his activity in church circles he has held the office of Steward or Trustee almost continually during his residence with us being a Trustee at time of his demise. The official board of the church will now miss his kindly advice and gentle ministrations in their deliberations. Grandpa Wescott died of Sarcoma of Bone, passing away, at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday morning, October 7, 1914, his soul, triumphant over death, joyfully winding its way to its eternal habitation, the house not made with hands, where sorrow, pain and earthly woes can never force admittance. 'Oh, empty Death; thou hast no sting! Oh Grave, where is thy victory? And we, when we go down to the river, that marks the unknown shore, tho' this earthly tenement be torn and racked with pain, helpless with the hopeless malady, may we touch its chill waters with the same resigned contentment, the same sublime faith in a glorious resurrection, when all things shall become new, without spot or blemish, eternal in the heavers. And may those remaining feel that the Master has reached down and lifted us up to the glorious realm, from whose bourne no traveler returns.' He leaves behind him, in his earthly vale, a wife and nine children, seventeen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Mr. Wescott was one of a family of eight children most of whom are known to the people here. Three of his sisters were here and paid their last respects at the interment, Mrs. D. I. (Frances) Clark of this place, Mrs. Gus (Elizabeth) Clark of Columbus, Nebraska, Mrs. J. E. (Eva) Nichols of Omaha. Two other sisters, Mrs. Ada Miller Joslyn of Phoenix, Arizona and Mrs. James Salmon (Anna) of Portland, Oregon, were unable to attend as were his two brothers, George Wescott of Portland, Oregon and Edward Wescott of Sydney, Montana."
