Description	:	Lela Ruth Simmerman, the daughter of Robert L. and Gracie Iona Roberts Fisher, was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Clarke County and died March 9, 1998, at Osceola Nursing and Rehab Center. She graduated from Weldon High School in 1935 and married Charles F. Whitworth in Clarke County in 1943. He died April 25, 1952. She married Cassel B. Roberts on Dec. 24, 1953, at Chariton. Read More	Lela Ruth Simmerman, the daughter of Robert L. and Gracie Iona Roberts Fisher, was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Clarke County and died March 9, 1998, at Osceola Nursing and Rehab Center. She graduated from Weldon High School in 1935 and married Charles F. Whitworth in Clarke County in 1943. He died April 25, 1952. She married Cassel B. Roberts on Dec. 24, 1953, at Chariton. He died in June 1961. She married Robert H. Simmerman on May 30, 1982, in Washington state. Mr. Simmerman died July 14, 1996. Mrs. Simmerman, a lifelong resident of Clarke County, moved to Murray in 1957. She entered Osceola Nursing and Rehab Center on Feb. 5, 1998. She worked as a nurse assistant for Dr. Harken in Osceola, in the kitchen of Murray Community High School, Osceola Leisure Manor and at the Clarke County Hospital. Mrs. Simmerman was the oldest living member of the Murray Baptist Church, past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and active member of the Murray Senior Citizens. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was a driver for the Southern Iowa Trolley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a son Joseph in 1947; a stepdaughter, Gladys Lepley; a sister in infancy and a brother, John Fisher. Mrs. Simmerman is survived by her two daughters, Myrna Hays and her husband, Richard Hays, of Murray and Sara Roustio and her husband Bill Roustio, of Des Moines; five grandchildren; a brother Robert S. Fisher of Fort Worth, Texas and a sister Myrna Quick of Canon City, Colo. Services for Mrs. Simmerman were at 10:30 a.m. March 13 at the Murray Baptist Church, the Rev. Jim Baughman officiating. Pianist was Pennie Gonseth and the hymn was Amazing Grace. Casket bearers were Rick Hays, Rob Hays, Raymond Johnston, Rusty Roustio, Scott Roustio, and Dan Sherman.
