He was baptized at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia and had completed the second grade at Clyde Elementary School. He was to be a member of the Toy Shop PeeWee baseball team at Concordia. Preceding him in death was a brother, Scott Anthony. Survivors are: his parents, brother; Steven, sister, Annette, all of the home; grandparents, Mrs. Milo Benyshek of Belleville. Mr. aad Mrs. Edmond Marcotte of Clyde; great-great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs; Frank Kinsvater of Clyde. Services were held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church June 2, at 9 a.m. Burial was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Clyde. Belleville Telescope – June 5, 1969 Two Clyde, Kan., brothers, Laverne Eugene Marcotte, 12, and Leland Charles Marcotte, 8, grandsons of Mrs. Milo Benyshek, Belleville, drowned Thursday afternoon in the Republican river. Leland fell in the water, and Laverne went after him to help rescue him, and both boys drowned. Laverne and Leland , Marcotte had gone for a walk Thursday afternoon with another brother, Steven Edmond, and a sister, Annette Marie. They were on their way home and apparently stopped a few minutes at the Republican River where the Missouri Pacific railroad bridge crosses it at the edge of Clyde. In some way, Leland fell into the river and Laverne jumped in after him. Neither could get back to safety. The other two children ran to a nearby house for help. Laverne was born September 8, 1956 in Clyde. He had completed the seventh grade. Leland was born April 8, 1961, in Clyde, and had completed the second grade. Both boys were members of the Roman Catholic Church. Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Marcotte, and the brother, Steven and sister, Annette, all of the home in Clyde, and the other grandparents besides Mrs. Benyshek are Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Marcotte, Clyde. Great-grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kinsvater, Clyde. Funeral services were held Monday at the St. John Baptist Catholic Church in Clyde.
