Description	:	Leland Glenn Loebsack died on March 3, 2005, from complications of emphysema. He was born July 27, 1931, in Waterville on the family wheat ranch his parents homesteaded. Leland graduated from Waterville High School in 1949. He then attended WSU for 1 year before he was drafted into the army. His tour was in Korea as a radio operator. When he was honorably discharged in 1954, he came back to Waterville and married his sweetheart. Janice Arlene Cook of Wenatchee and Leland were married on September 24, 1955. He was born July 27, 1931, in Waterville on the family wheat ranch his parents homesteaded. Leland graduated from Waterville High School in 1949. He then attended WSU for 1 year before he was drafted into the army. His tour was in Korea as a radio operator. When he was honorably discharged in 1954, he came back to Waterville and married his sweetheart. Janice Arlene Cook of Wenatchee and Leland were married on September 24, 1955. They lived on the family ranch and raised 3 children. They were married for 40 years then he lost Janice to lung cancer. Leland was a wheat farmer and loved his life and lived it to the fullest. Throughout his life, Leland enjoyed many sports and hobbies. He was a ham radio operator and this was a hobby he thoroughly enjoyed. He sold and rode snowmobiles and motorcycles for many years. Leland snowmobiled every chance he got with friends and family and also went to Yellowstone snowmobiling many times. He was an avid skier and won some awards at Sun Valley for his abilities. The Loebsack family was instrumental in starting Badger Mountain Ski Hill in Waterville which is still operating today. He loved hunting and fishing. The family went fishing opening day every year. He did a lot of motorcycle riding in the mountains with his good buddy Skeets. He had a great group of friends and they took many motorcycle trips to Canada, Reno and the Grand Canyon to name a few. He also participated in the Oregon 500 motorcycle rally a few times. Camping was enjoyed by the family as well as many family vacations. Most of the summer weekends were spent at Lake Chelan where Leland shared in the ownership of a cabin with his siblings and later when a mud slide in ‘68 wiped out the cabin, the family stayed at a trailer park and eventually bought a permanent site at Mill Bay Resort. Dad was an awesome guy who worked and played hard. He was up beat and friendly, smart and so witty. He was just a blast to be around. Thankfully he was able to experience many things in his life. There was alot of life left in him but his body was worn out. His message to everyone: Don't Smoke. Leland was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Beatrice (Love) Loebsack and his wife Janice. Survivors include his son, David Loebsack and his fiance' Pam, who are at the ranch; daughters, Kristie Loebsack of Chelan and Karen McDonald and her husband Jeff of Entiat; his brother, Lawrence Loebsack and sister-in-law Dolores of Waterville; his sister, Lucille Smith of Independence, Missouri. He has 8 grandchildren, Brandon and Nicholas (David's), Tawnya and Chase (Kristie's), and Shasta, Sam, Micaiah and Matthew (Karen's); he also has 2 great-grandchildren, Kade and Theadora (Tawnya's). Services of Commemoration will be Friday, March 11, 2005, at 11 a.m. from the Community Center at the Waterville Fairgrounds, with Pastor Craig Rayment officiating. Committal Service and Interment will follow at Waterville Cemetery. Following will be a reception at the Lion's Den. Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
