Kackler and Mary Ann Haltom OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, February 20, 1973 CROOKS Lena Elpha Crooks, daughter of Aaron and Mary Ann Kackler, was born in Lucas County, Iowa, on March 26, 1893, and passed from this life on February 16, 1973, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, at the age of 79 years, ten months and 21 days. She was united in marriage to Jesse Crooks on October 28, 1910. To this union three children were born: Gerald, Wilma and Carolyn. She spent her life on the farm with her husband near Norwood until his death in 1939. The rest of her life was spent in Indianola and Des Moines. She had worked at the Holiday Inn until one week prior to her passing. She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Gerald and wife Georgia of Chariton; two daughters, Carolyn Whitler and husband Donald of Imperial Beach, Calif., and Wilma Bales and husband Pearl of Des Moines, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one grandson and one great-grandson. Besides her family and relatives, she leaves a host of friends and neighbors who will miss her kind and pleasant face. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Pearl Sams at 1:00 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 1973, at the Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in the Norwood Cemetery. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
