She spent her early years living on a ranch in the Crazy Mountains, loved helping the ranch hands, and riding horses in the surrounding countryside. Learning and exploring were her favorite activities. Riding double on the horse with her sister, LaVaune was her transportation to the one-room schoolhouse. Moving to Butte at the age of 6 was quite a transition for her. Whittier Elementary staff felt she was not quite ready for the confines of a classroom. However, once she got the gist of a structured school, they discovered she was a gifted student and advanced her two grade levels. While attending Butte High School, she enjoyed music, athletics, friends, and then became a part of the teaching staff because she had a gift for languages. However, she was the happiest when riding horses on a ranch in Big Timber with her cousin, Phyllis. Lenore married Donald Morris Cameron, on 5/8/1937, at Butte Silver Bow Co., MT. They raised four children, and lived her life in a home on Princeton St., in Butte. Don was her first child and the most adventurous, and he managed his own business. Bonnie was second, the only girl, and worked as a teacher. John was next, though fragile in the beginning, became an athlete and entrepreneur. Doug had the privilege of being the youngest, adored by his siblings, and is a professor of chemistry at Montana Tech. All four of her children invested in their life's work, followed her example of working hard, playing hard, caring for others, and most importantly living Christian lives. Lenore was gifted in many ways. She was a stellar student, an excellent sax player, competitive runner, and killer pinochle and bridge player. She delighted in teaching her children to ski, ice skate, dance, learn languages, study and even took a turn at driving a Corvette to Deer Lodge and back in record time. We loved watching her taking on the challenge of water skiing at age 68. Once grandchildren arrived, she delighted in each one of them. Her advice to them was as quick as it was for her children. They all loved their Grandma and affectionately called her Nore Nore, Dee Dee, or Foxy Grandma. She loved playing with them, indulging their needs, supplying ample love and a little guidance thrown in for good measure. Our mom always had a place for people and wanted everyone to be together. Many dwelled in her home and found a place of comfort. It was important for her to house, feed, and entertain. Her home was a Wayfarers' Inn. She provided daycare for a great-grandchild at age 84; she nurtured children of the neighborhood, and many elderly friends younger than she. She eased the illness of her beloved sister, provided a home for her mother, and welcomed anyone else in need of care. Lenore was an active, involved member of St Mark's Lutheran Church. She especially enjoyed all building projects and was quick to offer her construction advice and talents. Attending church was the pivotal part of week, including her worship here two weeks before her death. Even when she had little, she gave to others: the Butte food bank, Smile Train, Labree Indian Nation, Disabled Veterans, and dollars to every child and treats for any dog passing her way. She definitely took the mission of St. Francis with vigor. Some of her last words were reminding us to do the same. Truly, she was a remarkable woman who lived her life with faith, courage, and love. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Julia McDonald; her sisters, La Vaune Samples and Marie Dahlman; brother-in- law, Jack Dahlman; and beloved grandson, Duncan Cameron. Lenore was a valuable employee at St. James Healthcare for 28 years. She worked as a nurses' aide and then a ward secretary. All of her time was spent in pediatrics, where she nurtured and cared for ill children. We will greatly miss her. She taught us well and fully expected us to do the same with our children. Her living family members are children, Don (wife, Nancy), Bonnie Hamilton, John (fiancée, Gina), Doug (wife, Marilyn), and her nephew, Mike Samples, who was like a son (wife, Joan); grandchildren, Scott Cameron, Debbie Johnson, Lindsey Cameron, Scott Hamilton, Kara Evans, Matt Cameron, Holly Kary, Sean Cameron and Kyle Cameron; nephew, Jack (Vonnie) Dahlman; nieces, Darlene (Walt) Luedtke and Diane (Jeff) Hull; great-nephews, Clay Reynolds, Butch Luedtke, Mark Luedtke and Todd Dahlman; great-nieces, Lavonne Gong, Kathy Ballard, Patty Browning, Mary Ann Allison, Jacqueline Blom, Jody Krzan and Colleen Rabson; great-grandchildren, Beau Hamilton, Jack Hamilton, Tyler Cameron, Cameron Evans, Cameron Johnson, Kabrie Evans, Alexis Kary, Jackson Kary and Bubbs (John) Cameron. Our "Butte Cousins," the Dahlmans, took care of us while we stood vigil with our mom. Our stay at St. James was like being at the "RITZ". The staff felt like family and supported us in every way imaginable. Dr. Yeoman helped our mom develop an end-of-life plan that was an immense relief and allowed her to leave this life with dignity. We are also grateful for the problem-solving skills of Dr. Silk and Dr. K. Kadri, and Deacon John Uggetti and Father Burke from St. James, and Pastor Chris Wareham, who provided pastoral care. In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to St. Mark's Lutheran Church where Lenore attended worship for 90 years. Thank you, Don, Bonnie, John, and Doug
