Leo Kenneth Knight, youngest son of William Sherman and Lyda Ellen Knight, was born January 11, 1925, at Elsie, Nebraska. He attended school in Elsie where he was raised. He moved with his parents to a ranch southeast of Holyoke in 1940. He enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served his country 26 years as a hospital corpsman. He served in WW II, Korean War and two tours in Vietnam. Leo was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received while serving in Vietnam. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and participated as a volunteer in the Meals on Wheels program and in the blood pressure clinic at Haxtun and Holyoke. Leo was united in marriage in 1947, to Donna Jean Milner of Holyoke, and to this union two sons were born, Bill and Scott, and four daughters, Mrs. Sloria Mushrush, Mrs. Cathy Howard, Patricia and Joan, all of Escondido, California. He was preceded in death by his father, William Knight, and a brother Earl. He is survived by his mother, Lyda of Holyoke; Mrs. Donna Knight; his children; one sister, Mrs. Pauline Martin of Wray; a brother, Roy of Holyoke; four grandchildren; many other relatives, and many friends.
