Rev. Allan Atkins officiated at the services. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park. Thompson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. William Sherman Knight was born August 31, 1887 in Granby, Missouri. When he was five years old his mother died and three years later his father died leaving him and three sisters orphans. He lived with an uncle until he struck out on his own as the age of 14. He came to Nebraska as a young man and worked on a ranch north of Elsie. He was united in marriage to Lyda E. Miller on October 19, 1910 at Grant, Nebraska, and to this union one daughter and three sons were born. They lived in and around Elsie until 1940, when they moved to a ranch southeast of Holyoke. He retired and moved to Holyoke in 1953. He was a member of the Church of Christ, being baptized into Christ as a young man. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie and Mae; his oldest son, Earl, and a grandson, Bill Martin. He is survived by his wife, Lyda; a daughter, Pauline, Mrs. Dale Martin; two sons, Roy and Leo, Holyoke; one sister, Erva, Washington; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ William signed a WWI draft registration card June 5, 1917 at Perkins County, Nebraska giving his date of birth as August 31, 1887. Born at Granby, Missouri. Description: age 29, medium height, medium build, light blue eyes, black hair. He and his wife had three children and were living at Elsie, Nebraska.
