Riedel, 83, of rural Keosauqua died at 11:52 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 1994, at Van Buren County Hospital. He was born Oct. 2, 1910, at Utica, the son of Fred and Elizabeth Crafton Riedel. He married Pearl Winters on April 9, 1935, at Kahoka, Mo. She survives. Riedel had lived in Van Buren County since 1983. He previously lived in Fairfield for 40 years. He was a molder and was employed by the Fairfield Water Department until his retirement in 1973. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and a past member of Eagles Lodge No. 1927. Surviving are four sons, Gary Riedel of Albuquerque, N.M., Danny Riedel of Phoenix, Donney Riedel of Effingham, Ill., and Jerry Riedel of Fort Madison; one daughters, Pat Hosman of Des Moines; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Pearl Anderson, Fairfield, Hazel Cass of Birmingham, Helen Huff of Davenport, Irene Downing of Pulaski and Ruth Easton of Farmington. He was preceded in death by a son, Leo, and two brothers, Harold and Clarence. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, the Rev. John Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Open visitation begins tonight at the funeral home. Family visitation is from 7 to 8:30 tonight. A memorial has been established to the First Lutheran Church handicap fund. -------------------------- Note: a son, Jerry Allen Riedel, was born June 22, 1951 in Fairfield, Iowa, and died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at his home at Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. A full obituary was published in the Fairfield Ledger on October 31, 2003. If and when and where he was to be buried was not disclosed in the obituary, however, and a/o Sept. 28, 2018 there doesn't appear to be a legitimate FindAGrave memorial entered for him in a cemetery burial. This contributor hesitates to enter one for him as a "burial unknown", so if anyone knows of a burial status for Jerry Allen Riedel, please contact this contributor so that Jerry can be listed with a legitimate memorial and linked to his parents.
