Leo Mathew Funk was born December 6, 1918, a son of Mathias and Anna (Hondl) Funk, on a farmstead located in Bowbells Township, Burke County, south of Bowbells, ND. Leo Mathew Funk was born December 6, 1918, a son of Mathias and Anna (Hondl) Funk, on a farmstead located in Bowbells Township, Burke County, south of Bowbells, ND. When Leo was two years old, he and his family moved to the farmstead in Carter Township, west of Bowbells, where he continued to live until 2008, when he moved to the Baptist Home in Kenmare. He was very proud of being able to live on the farm he loved in Carter Township for 88 years of his life. Leo began his farming career with his father, Math, and brother, Arnold. Leo took over sole operation of the family farm in 1966, after his father passed away. Leo loved his horses and livestock. He raised registered charolais cattle, pigs, and chickens and ran a dairy operation and delivery route for many years. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards. He also loved to travel the world with his sisters, Florence and Eleanor and his good friend, John Norgaard. Leo, being a farmer all of his life, knew the importance of making hay while the sun shines. And per his request, he asks all farmers to continued their work if possible rather than attend his funeral. He was a life-long member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bowbells, where he was proud of his involvement with the rebuilding and maintenance of the church. His loving family includes: sister-in-law, Leona, Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Mathias and Anna Funk; sister, Florence Funk and Eleanor Olson, brother, Arnold Funk; and brother-in-law, Vern Olson. Thompson-Larson Funeral Home
