Description	:	Leon L. Gallant, 92, of Defiance, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at his residence. He was born on April 20, 1920, to Leon L. and Helen (McFeeters) Keys at Jackson, Mich. On November 9, 1940, he married Vera Smith, who preceded him on September 29, 2006. Leon worked at the GM Powertrain retiring in 1975 and also for the Defiance County Sheriff's Office as a lieutenant as a jail administrator, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Defiance VFW Post 3360, American Legion Post, Moose Lodge and Defiance County Sheriff's Posse, a 4-H advisor and formerly worked... Read More	Leon L. Gallant, 92, of Defiance, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at his residence. He was born on April 20, 1920, to Leon L. and Helen (McFeeters) Keys at Jackson, Mich. On November 9, 1940, he married Vera Smith, who preceded him on September 29, 2006. Leon worked at the GM Powertrain retiring in 1975 and also for the Defiance County Sheriff's Office as a lieutenant as a jail administrator, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Defiance VFW Post 3360, American Legion Post, Moose Lodge and Defiance County Sheriff's Posse, a 4-H advisor and formerly worked at Keck's Ice Plant, the B&O Railroad and Defiance Landmark Elevator. He was also a World War II Army veteran serving in Germany. He was also an avid rabbit breeder. Leon is survived by his daughters, Alice Jean Johnson of Defiance, Ohio, Shirley Deitrick of Defiance, Ohio, and Janie (Ronald) Grant of Defiance, Ohio; sons, Gary (Shari) Gallant of Defiance and Jeffrey (Helen) Gallant of Fort Wayne, Ind.; sisters, Mildred Noggle of Haviland, Ohio, and Pauline Cordray, Defiance; brothers, Robert (Judy) Keys of Sherwood, Ohio, Larry Keys of Defiance, Ohio, and Harold Keys of Bryan, Ohio; and 19 grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and seven great-great-stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Gallant; parents; son, Tommy Gallant; brother, Donald Keys; and sisters, Gladys Eickenhorst, Ethel Goodwin and Betty DeVault. Burial will take place in the Evansport Cemetery where members of the Defiance VFW Post 3360 will accord military honors
