Leona Maxine McCarl was born November 29, 1915 to Roy and Lannie (Alley) McCarl. She was born and raised in Hand County, Leona attended Northern State College and later graduated with a B.A. Degree from Huron College. She married William E. McCool May 24, 1935 in Ree Heights. Leona Maxine McCarl was born November 29, 1915 to Roy and Lannie (Alley) McCarl. She was born and raised in Hand County, Leona attended Northern State College and later graduated with a B.A. Degree from Huron College. She married William E. McCool May 24, 1935 in Ree Heights. Leona taught school for 30 years, nine in rural schools, Ree Heights for five years, and 16 years in St. Lawrence, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Community Church, past member of SDEA, treasurer of Kitchen Klatter club, and a member of South Hand Pioneers. Since retirement her main interest has been camping and fishing. She is survived by her husband, William; three daughters, Mrs. Ben (Marlene) Nemec, Holabird, Mrs. Dale (Sharon) Campbell, St. Lawrence, and Mrs. Robert (Janice) Allen, Amity, OR; two sons, Gary, Tryon, NC and Neal, Amity,, OR; one sister, Mrs. Carl (Bonnie) Falkenhainer, Bothell, WA; 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son Robert, and two grandsons. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Nazarene Church, Miller, with Rev. Dave Baker officiating. Burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Allen Campbell, Kevin McCool, David Adkins, Keely McCool, Billy Campbell, Gene Campbell, Tammie McCool and Staci Campbell.
