Description	:	Jewell Boy Victim of Infantile Paralysis LeRoy Frank Clingman, son of Maurice and Wanna Clingman, was born July5, 1927, near Jewell, Kansas. He attended the rural school of this district until 1938, when Mrs. Clingman and family moved into Jewel. LeRoy completed the grades in the Jewell Elementary school and would have entered the junior class of the Jewell Rural High School this year. Read More	Jewell Boy Victim of Infantile Paralysis LeRoy Frank Clingman, son of Maurice and Wanna Clingman, was born July5, 1927, near Jewell, Kansas. He attended the rural school of this district until 1938, when Mrs. Clingman and family moved into Jewel. LeRoy completed the grades in the Jewell Elementary school and would have entered the junior class of the Jewell Rural High School this year. He was active in the school life and was a member of the Hi-Y. LeRoy lived much as other boys, enjoying life and looking forward to another year in high school and later to a place in the work of the community. During this vacation season he was busied at various jobs. Recently he went to Palisade, Colo., where he picked peaches. He returned home Wednesday, Aug. 25, and soon began having trouble with a sore throat. Wednesday, Sept. 1, he was taken to the Community hospital at Beloit where tests showed he had infantile paralysis. He was then rushed to Asbury Protestant hospital in Salina so that he might have advantage of the Kenny method of treatment. But the disease had so far advanced or for some reason did not respond to treatment that LeRoy died in the early hours of Sept. 4, with his mother by his side. His brother, Corp. Ross Clingman had just arrived at an army base at Alliance, Nebr., telephoned his mother as a surprise, learned of LeRoy's illness, obtained a furlough and within 15 hours of his arrival was on his way to see LeRoy. But he arrived too late by some 18 hours. LeRoy was preceded in death by his father, two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his mother, and sister Annabel of the home in Jewell; three brothers, Abner of Jamestown and Corporals Max and Ross of the armed forces of our country; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the graveside in Jewell cemetery by the Rev. W. Carl Greene. Jewell County Republican, Jewell, Kansas Sept. 1943
