Description	:	Leslie Border Dies As Result of Stroke Was Well Known Resident of the Carrollton Community All His Life Leslie Leroy Border was born in Carrollton, Dec. 25, 1873, and died at the Carroll hospital Aug. 4, 1919, at the age of 45 years, 5 months and 9 days. A paralytic stroke was the cause of his death. He was stricken just eight weeks. Leslie was the tenth of the family of eleven children born to the Border home. Of these all are living except Mrs. Margaret Hampton. His father died in August, 1905, but his aged mother still lives. He has always been a resident of this community, having been born here and ever making his home with his parents. Somewhere about twenty years ago God called and the spirit of conviction became so strong the pastor, Rev. Davis Fye, was called to the home in the night, when Leslie was happily saved. His fellowship with Jesus has been his life’s most precious possession. He united with the Carrollton U.B. church. When God spoke peace to his heart he sang, “I’ve anchored my soul in the haven of rest.” And the years proved he indeed had. His life cannot help but be a help to all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his departure his mother, Grandma Border; Chas and Riley, of Carrollton; Simon of Coon Rapids; Spencer of Norton, Kas.; Frank of Livingston, Mont., and Mrs. Sterner of Murdo, S.D. May the example he set point us all to the upward track. Frank, Spencer and Mrs. Sterner were unable to be present at the funeral. Short services were held at the home and the funeral conducted at the Carrollton church, Rev. Riggs officiated assisted by Rev. Hollinger. The last night before Leslie was stricken, at the family altar at home he read the fourth Psalm. At Grandma Border’s request this psalm was used as the text for this occasion, “I will both lay me down in peace and sleep, for thou Lord only makest me dwell in safety.” Interment in the Carrollton cemetery. The pall bearers were Messrs. Green, Genter, Reever, F. Conner, Corbin and Frank Sigler. The music was rendered by Mrs. Lena Rabuck, Misses Reever, John Annear and Mr. Crow with Mrs. Squires at the piano. – H.V.R. (Glidden Graphic, Glidden, IA, August 14, 1919)
