She belonged to one of the earliest families of the locality and was a woman greatly admired and loved by her friends. She possessed rare good sense and kindliness of heart and was cheerful under all conditions and patient and uncomplaining in her affliction. In her passing it can be said in truth a "Good Mother Has Gone." She bequeathed a good example in motherliness, affection, kindness and helpfulness to the community. Even in the most distressing hours of her sickness she was more cheerful than most friends who called upon her, and her pastor said that during his visits made with the thought of comforting her, that she gave him great consolation and inspired him with ambition for higher endeavor and accomplishments. She was the first member of a large family to pass away leaving among her near relatives husband, daughter, aged mother, nine brothers and one sister. We have been favored with the following history of her life: Margaret Jane Border was born in Bedford county, Pennsylvania, September 22, 1856. While still a young child she moved with her parents to Ohio, where she lived until she was sixteen when the family came to Iowa, On July 20, 1881, she was united in marriage to J. C. Hampton. There were born to them five children, four of whom, Royal, Boone, Homer, and Ralph, died in infancy. Since her marriage she has lived in and near Coon Rapids, with the exception of two years in Washington, and a brief residence in Arkansas. For many years she had been in failing health, and about six months ago was stricken with paralysis. She had been confined to her room practically all of the time since. On the 16th of March, 1917, she passed away aged 60 years, 5 months, and 22 days Besides her husband and her daughter, Margaret, there survive her, her mother, Mrs. Lousia Border of Carrollton, Iowa; her brothers, G. S. Border of Norton, Kansas; S. F. Border of Coon Rapids, J, O., L. H. and W. D. Border of South Sioux City, Nebraska; L. F. Border of Fergus county, Montana, and C. N., L. L. and R. B. Border of Carrollton, and her sister, Mrs. E. Sterner of Murdo, South Dakota. In early life she became a Christian, and at the time of her death was a member of the Methodist church of Coon Rapids. She was affiliated with Faith Chapter No. 308 of the Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Hampton was faithful in her church affiliations, attending when her health permitted, and helping in every way the good cause that came to her notice. Throughout her long illness she was patient and resigned, radiating a wholesome cheer to all her friends. Her hope in her Savior was steadfast to the end. The funeral services were conducted Monday from the M. E. church, Rev. Matthews preaching the sermon before a large number of friends. The Eastern Star had charge of the body The six brothers present acted as pall bearers at the request of the deceased sister and which was most fitting and an act unusual.
