Description	:	Leslie Mayhew, 87, of Lincoln formerly of Beatrice died at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln on Wednesday morning, September 17, 2014. He was born December 20, 1926 in Marshall County, KS and graduated from Marysville High School. He joined the United States Navy and served from 1944 to 1946. He met and married Nola Petet in San Diego, CA in 1946 before moving to Beatrice. He worked at Steel Tanks, Store Kraft and the City of Beatrice. He started and ran the Walnut Grove Pet Cemetery. Read More	Leslie Mayhew, 87, of Lincoln formerly of Beatrice died at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln on Wednesday morning, September 17, 2014. He was born December 20, 1926 in Marshall County, KS and graduated from Marysville High School. He joined the United States Navy and served from 1944 to 1946. He met and married Nola Petet in San Diego, CA in 1946 before moving to Beatrice. He worked at Steel Tanks, Store Kraft and the City of Beatrice. He started and ran the Walnut Grove Pet Cemetery. He was a force in unionizing the City of Beatrice and the Board of Public Works Employees, was a charter member of the Gage County Credit Union and served on the Beatrice City Council from 1992 to 1996. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice; Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the American Legion; FOE #531 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and had been active in the Boy Scouts and PTA. Survivors include his wife, Nola of Lincoln formerly of Beatrice; two daughters, Sandra Mayhew of Ashland, Rebecca Lyons and husband Blaine of Lincoln; two sons, Thomas Mayhew of Lincoln and Daniel Mayhew and wife Kim of Lincoln; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Maxine Mayhew of Maryland; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Zilpha Anderson Mayhew; three brothers, Everett, Roy and Dale Mayhew; three sisters, Ada Heaton, Correne Corey and Zelma Daily. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Rev. Dr. Charles Spence, III officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A memorial has been established to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. Sunday until time of services on Tuesday. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
