Description	:	Leslie was 1 of 9 children born to John Schwada, Sr. and Clara Mary Neaman. His parents were married in 1859 in Rising Sun, Indiana. The family moved to Shelby County, Missouri in 1865. Leslie married Zella May Crawford on 07 Dec 1898 at her parents' home in Clarence, Missouri. According to a family story told years later by his daughter, his full name when he married Zella was Leslie Peacock Schwada. Read More	Leslie was 1 of 9 children born to John Schwada, Sr. and Clara Mary Neaman. His parents were married in 1859 in Rising Sun, Indiana. The family moved to Shelby County, Missouri in 1865. Leslie married Zella May Crawford on 07 Dec 1898 at her parents' home in Clarence, Missouri. According to a family story told years later by his daughter, his full name when he married Zella was Leslie Peacock Schwada. She reportedly didn't care for the name, so she changed "Peacock" to "Paul." Leslie was a farmer, and they were the parents of 2 children. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Columbia, Missouri. His nephew was a pastor there. Leslie was in poor health for the final 4 months of his life. He had surgery twice in October of 1947, but it was not thought that he was near death. He passed away at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 14 days. He was survived by his wife, Zella; 1 son, Vernon Schwada; 1 daughter, Vera Hall; 3 grandsons; 2 brothers, Frank Schwada and William Schwada; and 3 sisters, Flora Mitts, Louise Roy and Mary Long. In addition to his parents, Leslie was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Henry Schwada and John Schwada; and 1 sister, Emma Wilky. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on the afternoon of 15 Oct 1947 at the Center Street Methodist Church. Zella passed away in 1965 and was buried next to him. Children: 1 son, 1 daughter. W. Crawford on Dec. 7 at 8 o'clock p.m., occurred the marriage of Zella and Leslie Schwada. The wedding march was played by Miss Jennie Jordan, and after a beautiful and impressive ceremony by Rev. Cain about forty five invited guests repaired to the dining room and did ample justice to the bountiful repast, which consisted of both the substantials and luxuries of the season. A number of beautiful and useful presents were received. On the following day about sixty quests assembled at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Schwada where everything passed off very pleasantly. An elegant repast served and beautiful music was discoursed 'till late in the evening when the crowd dispersed, feeling that they had been royally entertained. The bride is noble and accomplished, the only daughter of George Crawford, a farmer living 3 miles north of Clarence. The groom is a young man of good character, honest and industrious and has charge of his father's large stock farm, two miles west of Hager's Grove. They carry the best wishes of their many friends to their new home. May their joys be as bright as sunshine, their sorrows as light as the dew. A Friend (The Clarence Republican newspaper, R. N. SCHWADA Leslie Paul Schwada passed away Monday morning (Oct. 13, 1947) at Blessing hospital in Quincy where he had undergone two operations during the past ten days. Although he had been in failing health for about four months his condition was not thought to have been critical. Son of John and Clara Neaman Schwada, he was born February 29, 1876 north of Clarence. His entire life was spent in Shelby county where he farmed extensively. Early in life Mr. Schwada became a Christian and at the time of his death he was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Columbia, where his nephew, Rev. Paul Schwada, is pastor. On Dec. 7, 1899, he was married to Miss Zella M. Crawford who survives with, two children, a son, Vernon, and a daughter, Mrs. James Hall, both of Shelbina. Also surviving are three grandsons, Robert E. Schwada, James, Jr., and John David Hall of Shelbina. Brothers and sisters surviving are Frank and William Schwada, Mrs. Flora Mitts, Mrs. Ed Roy and Mrs. John Long, all of Clarence. Preceding him in death are two brothers, Henry and John Schwada, and one sister, Mrs. Emma Wilky. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Center Street Methodist church. Ministers in charge of the services will be Rev. E.L. Latham of Quincy, Rev. Harlow Reid of Hannibal and Rev. Ford Miller. Burial will be in Maplewood cemetery. (Shelby County newspaper; Oct 1947)
