Johnson, taken by death Lester F. Johnson, 51 of 216 Northview, died Saturday at 2:51 p.m. at Ottumwa Hospital, following a short illness. He was the owner and operator of the Wapello Realty Company at 608 Church Street. and had been a Realtor in Ottumwa since 1951. He was born August 14, 1919 in Ottumwa, Iowa the son of Walter and Catherine Thorne Johnson. He had been a life-time resident of Ottumwa and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He entered the service on June 24, 1941 in Des Moines and was discharged on Sept. 19, 1945 at Santa Anna, Calif. He was a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church, the BPOE No. 347, the O. B. Nelson Post No. 3 American Legion, the Ottumwa Area Chamber of Commerce, the South Ottumwa Boosters and the local, state, and national boards of Realtors. He married Wilma E. Swope on March 15, 1946 at Zanesfield [sic], Ohio. She survives. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Catherine Johnson of Ottumwa; one brother Harvey Johnson of Houston, Tex., two sisters: Mrs. Lola Timmins and Mrs. Doris Anderson both of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother Charles, and one sister Lavina. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Abbas of the North Court Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Al Martin, Bud Morgan, Ed Cooper, Jack Hampton, Dale Snyder and Rex Moore. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.
