Lester Lloyd Hinrichsen, 81, of rural Pawnee City, Nebraska, was born September 28, 1924, the son of John and Mildred (Reis) Hinrichsen, at their home in Richfield, Nebraska. Lester Lloyd Hinrichsen, 81, of rural Pawnee City, Nebraska, was born September 28, 1924, the son of John and Mildred (Reis) Hinrichsen, at their home in Richfield, Nebraska. He attended country school near Cedar Creek to the 8th grade. During his early years he worked at Lime & Ritchie sandpits, the Cullin Elevator and farmed in the Cedar Creek area. The draft called him to serve his Country, but due to health reasons he was declined. In 1947, the family moved to a farm south of Pawnee City where he continued to farm and live until the death of his parents. During that time he worked putting anchors for the County's first power line. He also worked briefly at Hoppers Rock Quarry. While farming on their own farm, Les also worked for years helping other farmers in the area, and offered his help to any neighbor who needed it. After the death of his parents in 1980, he moved into the old "Ford Place" which was just a mile from his homeplace. He was always a great outdoorsman and loved to fish, hunt, bow hunt and joined in many camping trips with his entire family. Being a bachelor all his life his family consisted of his brothers, sisters and their in-laws plus all of their children. He was there for all the newborn babies and would hold them and walk with them for endless hours. As they grew he gave all the nephews and nieces his attention (teasing) and vast knowledge he absorbed from all his readings, which included history, western stories, hunting and fishing magazines. Most of all, he gave us his special humor in his storytellings and in the way he expressed his words and conversations. He also was a very good cook and enjoyed sharing his recipes. He faithfully put many miles on whatever vehicle or motorcycle he had at the time with his daily trips to all the family members for morning coffees. He shared his time at holiday gatherings with family and attended all the birthday celebrations he could. Les passed away at his present home on October 27, 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Melvin Hinrichsen. Les is survived by brother Jack and wife Shrie of Pawnee City: sister Luree and husband Jim Ullman of Pawnee City; brother Ivan and wife Charleen of Dawson; brother Doug and wife Luella of DuBois; sister Betty and husband Dave Flanagin of Pawnee City; and sister-in-law Wanda Hinrichsen of Pawnee City; an aunt, Vera Hotz of Papillion; many nephews and nieces, grand nephews and nieces, and great-grand nieces. Liked by everyone who knew him, a shining star on our family tree, He'd always get up early in the morning and eat a little breakfast as the sun came up, Grab his hat, head on out to the shed, where he'd load up his equipment in his picup truck. He'd be at our house every morning drinkin' coffee with my dad. He was there for every holiday, laughin' and a eatin' and a jokin' telling stories, he was fun in every way. He liked to go with us on family vacations, he was there for every birthday wish, He liked to hold sleepy babies in his arms in the rocker, but most of all he loved to fish. Chorus: He turned 81 that summer, livin' in a house a couple miles from town, Cool breeze on his face by the water in the evening, catchin' fish until the sun went down, Now he's finhin' in a lake in the clouds, above the rain, where the waters always crystal clear, He didn't have to make any adjustments in his lifestyle, cause he was livin' in heaven down here. He taught life lessons to his nieces and his nephews, How to fish and hunt and camp and have fun, Slow down, take it easy and enjoy Mother Nature, things you'll miss if you're always on the run. When I think of how he looked when he was out by the water Fish a spashin', he'd look on with a grin. Every time that it rains now we look up and laugh We know he's reelin' another one in.
