His parents, Arthur and Eva Forbes, moved to the Lake Darling area west of Brighton, IA, after Les' birth in Packwood, Iowa. Dad started school at the age of four, with his brother, Wilbur, at the Green Valley Rural School. During his high school years, he played the violin, participated in the drama clubs, and played baseball and basketball. He graduated from Parsons College (Fairfield, IA) in 1941. After the WWII, and marriage to Louise Peck, Cedar Rapids, IA, was their first home. Angela and Eileen were born there. Les was transferred to Shenandoah, IA, in 1949, where he was store manager for B.F. Goodrich Tire Company. They returned to Pleasant Plain where Steve was born in 1950. Les was serving as Parts Mgr for Thompson's Garage in Ainsworth, Iowa, where Rich and Mary were born. I guess that leaves me, and my two younger brothers, Doug and John, to be born in Fairfield. in 1952, Les and Wendell Baker opened up Sitler's Auto Parts in Fairfield, IA. The forst home in Fairfield was 1001 E Broadway, a few blocks east of the high school. in 1952, In 1956, the move to the ten acre farm, for five great years. The snow tunnels we built... I still remember them. And according to Mom, 1959 was the big year for blizzards. The move to 308 E Burlington, Fairfield, Iowa... came in the fall of 1960. I am not sure how Mom and Dad kept their sanity. Eight children running here and there. At the age of 93, she still gets around, she still makes me smile and she is still waiting for the Cubs pennant and series victories.
